“Andre Burgos, an antiques dealer in Warwick, New York, specializing in wine-related items, explains that rare patents command some of the highest dollar amounts [for corkscrews]. ‘Maybe they found out it was too expensive to make, or it was actually not that efficient, and they abandoned the patent,’ he says. Patents with few known pieces have sold for upwards of $10,000.”
